Icon Pending Flex Legislation - will this be the tipping point?

How thrilled was I, this week, when our Chief Strategy Officer, Dr. Sandy Burud delivered the news.... that Congress is considering a 'right to request' flexibility law like the one in Europe that would not require employers to offer flexibility, but if they do (which is 75% of large companies) it would require them to have formal procedures for discussing employees needs and how to address them.

While the law isn't passed and it isn't a requirement yet, companies who want to be ahead of the curve - or ensure they aren't behind the eight ball - will no doubt take notice and act. The fact is, while companies make the "flexibility promise" in their branding and recruiting, that's the easy part. Delivering upon that promise - building flex into the culture throughout the organization so that it is reality vs. rhetoric - is far more challenging and far less commonplace.

At FlexPaths, we view this pending legislation as a win-win....a catalyst for change....For HR leaders who are serious about proving out this promise and need a convincing argument. For employees, who want to work for companies that are truly flex friendly, who soon, will be empowered to ask the recruiter at an initial interview - "how is your company complying with this legislation?"

We're pleased that we can help companies take the mystery out of flex, help them define and communicate its benefits, showcase the bottom line benefits (e.g., reduce operating costs, mitigate risk) through a ready solution - an internal portal, easily deployable into companies - that meets this need - that benefits both the employee and the company. Perhaps I am being the ultimate optimist - or overzealous entrepreneur - but I think this is just what the doctor ordered....
