Formal Flex

When Bill’s dad got sick last year, he needed full-time care. Even though Bill arranged an in-home caregiver, his dad has a lot of medical appointments and sometimes just needs Bill to be there with him. Bill knew he needed to shift the way he was working for a year or two, for his own mental health as much as his father’s. He really enjoyed his work and his colleagues, so he wasn’t interested in finding a new job.

To make this work, he presented a plan to his boss where he worked remotely and different hours, but still worked full time. His preparation and proposal were impressive and he got the okay to start his new schedule. With regular communication, some adjustments have been made, Bill has shown that he can get the job done in this flexible way and Bill, his dad and the company are thriving.
